Anyone Can Be Ali’s Hero

ABOUT THE CAUSE

For over 10 years, The Humble Heroes of FDNY—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by a New York firefighter—has brought Hollywood-grade superhero visits, hope, and joy to children facing severe medical battles. Now, they are expanding their mission to provide direct financial assistance to families navigating extraordinary medical challenges.

ALI’S STORY

In January 2024, at just 4 years old, Alessandra "Ali" Modica contracted a severe case of the flu that rapidly deteriorated into heart failure. During an emergency transfer to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (C.H.O.P.) in a snowstorm, Ali went into cardiac arrest and was without a heartbeat for 18 minutes.

Against all odds, Ali survived. While her organs recovered, the 18 minutes without oxygen resulted in a hypoxic brain injury affecting her motor skills and speech. Today at 7 years old, Ali understands the world around her, recognizes her family, and shares laughter—but she cannot yet walk, talk, or eat independently.

WHY WE ARE RAISING FUNDS

Ali continues to make remarkable strides through intensive therapies and stem cell treatments, but much of her ongoing care is not covered by insurance.

Our target of $30,000 will directly fund:

- Direct Medical Aid: Financial support for stem cell treatments, feeding therapy, and physical therapy for Ali and families like hers.

- Superhero Hospital Visits: Quality costumes and toys for visits to hospitals, cancer centers, and special-needs schools across NY, NJ, and PA.

- Youth Inspiration: Scholarships and programs for the Heart of Humble Heroes 100-Day Challenge, inspiring middle schoolers to serve their communities.

- Expanding Reach: Travel and program expenses to visit children's hospitals nationwide, including St. Jude.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Every dollar brings Ali closer to another therapy session and another breakthrough. Donate today, share Ali’s story, and help us prove that anyone can be a hero.
